3. Standards of Behaviour
All workers must:
3.1 Respect Rights & Dignity
- Respect each participant’s right to self-determination and informed decision-making
- Promote independence and choice
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality
- Use respectful, inclusive and non-discriminatory language
3.2 Provide Safe & Competent Support
- Deliver services within scope of role, training and competence
- Follow individualised care plans and clinical directives
- Maintain professional boundaries at all times
- Use positive behaviour support approaches
- Follow medication, manual handling, feeding and clinical protocols
3.3 Act with Integrity
- Be honest, transparent and accountable
- Accurately document service delivery and incidents
- Avoid conflicts of interest
- Not accept gifts or benefits that influence professional judgement
- Comply with all organisational policies
3.4 Prevent & Respond to Harm
Workers must take all reasonable steps to prevent and respond to:
- Abuse (physical, emotional, sexual, financial or psychological)
- Neglect
- Exploitation
- Grooming
- Coercion
- Discrimination
- Violence or unsafe practice
All suspicions, allegations or disclosures must be reported immediately in line with organisational reporting procedures.
4. Child Safe Standards
As a child safe organisation, we require all workers to:
- Prioritise the safety and best interests of children
- Listen to and respect children’s voices
- Take all concerns raised by a child seriously
- Never engage in inappropriate physical, verbal or online behaviour
- Never be alone with a child in a way that is not observable or accountable (unless clinically required and authorised)
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries
- Hold and maintain valid Working With Children clearances
Any form of child abuse or grooming behaviour will result in immediate escalation and mandatory reporting.
5. Professional Boundaries
Workers must not:
- Engage in personal, romantic or financial relationships with participants or their families
- Share personal social media with participants
- Provide unauthorised transport or private arrangements
- Use participant information for personal benefit
- Attend work under the influence of alcohol or drugs
6. Cultural Safety & Inclusion
We commit to:
- Respecting cultural identity, diversity and lived experience
- Providing culturally responsive supports
- Supporting participants from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds
- Respecting faith, gender identity, sexuality and family structure
Discrimination of any kind is not tolerated.
7. Use of Restrictive Practices
Any restrictive practice must:
- Be authorised in an approved Behaviour Support Plan
- Be the least restrictive option
- Be used only as a last resort
- Be documented and reported in line with NDIS requirements
Unauthorised restrictive practices are strictly prohibited.
8. Reportable Conduct & Incident Management
All workers must:
- Immediately report incidents involving serious injury, abuse, neglect or misconduct
- Comply with NDIS Commission reportable incident requirements
- Cooperate fully with investigations
- Participate in continuous improvement processes
Failure to report concerns may result in disciplinary action.
9. Breaches of the Code
Breaches of this Code may result in:
- Performance management
- Additional training
- Disciplinary action
- Termination of engagement
- Mandatory reporting to external authorities
- Notification to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission
10. Accountability
All workers must:
- Read and understand this Code
- Sign acknowledgement upon commencement
- Participate in ongoing training
- Uphold these standards in every interaction
